men and labour pains

haha. i have to write this down.

so my brother checked his wife in the hospital, yesterday at 9am. when i called, he told me calmly, "oh its nothing. she's laughing. the doctor just inserted this pill down under. and ohh. her mom is in here too!"

to my response, "did the doctor break her waterbag? and what? her mom in there too? so lucky?!"

a little information on my brother. he's a malaysian, works in Singapore, decided to buy a house in JB (without parents knowledge) and decided to marry his wife in less than 3 months of knowing each other.

and my brother also decided not to let his wife give birth in Singapore. which is silly to many of us for we can help her out surely, eventhough she doesn't fancy us. sigh.

that phonecall was at 11am. at 5pm, while i was cutting my nails and it was raining heavily, i decided to sms my brother, "so how many cm already open down under?"

he called me and this was how quirky the conversation was.

he: alah. aku kat rumah nie.

me: what the fuck u doing at home?

he: doctor suruh balik, relax.

me: ok. so how is she?

he: doctor taruk tu pill tadi pagi. sekarang tengah contraction tu ah. lambat lagi tu nak beranak. baru contractions. aku rasa esok beranak. sini 48hrs baru emergency caesarean. kau dulu 12hrs jek kan?

me: oit selenger. tu contractions da tanda nak beranak lah. kalau nak tunggu 48 jam mana ader energy nak push. tak baca buku ker? (confirm he didn't read up on labour process!!)

he: apa tu contractions? aku tgk dia relax je cam tak sakit.

me: hah...tu contractions punya sakit kan macam kau kena cerit berit memulas pastu takde jamban nak melepas. kena tahan tahan. tu baby kau kat dalam tgh memulas mulas perut bini kau. haha...(i think i melebih lah kan, just to thrill him!)

he: haha..gitu ke. oh. k lah bye.

i was surprised that he went home instead of being by his wife. if my husband did that, i surely nagged yelled at him "where is your head at?".

then at 11pm, mom called me. his wife would have to do the emergency caesarean. mom said my brother was in shocked, sad and clueless stage.

i called him. he hung up his phone. i understood he might be busy, rushing here and there, worrying and anticipating the new life. and that reminded me of how i was when my labour with littleboy.

my hubby did read the book, he said so. he was calm, telling me not to scream 'aahh' instead keep saying 'Ya Allah'. he even went for breakfast and prayed zohor and asar. i knew he was clueless, he said so too. while i was handling the contractions, i saw him sleeping and playing his psp and holding my hands.

his mom and sister were at the lobby, waiting anxiously. it would be great if the hospital allowed her to be in my labour ward. you know, woman and woman might help more.
then i watched him cried, as i cried upon hearing the bad news - emergency caesarean, and he cried further as i pleaded with the gynae and threw away the surgery forms. and i screamed for him when he had to transfer all our things to a ward a few storey up. it was like a hindustani movie lah.

he got busy, with the things, rushing back down to wheel me to OT, informing his mom and sister and welcoming his son, pushing him to nursery and making sure he's all fine and then came back down, waited for an hour to see me, all crashed. it was touching. and i knew he panic but he overcame it.

but with the arrival of babygirl, he was handy. he knew the procedure and went thru it like a pro. he didn't cry but he smile when he welcomed his daughter and wheeled her to nursery.

alright then, back to my brother's story. i called him back an hour later, and he answered.

me: how are u?

he: i'm okay.

me: how's your wife and your baby?

he: she's okay and baby is a girl and she's okay.

me: so how come caesarean?

he: she was in alot of pain. tu je aku tau. anyway she chose the half asleep one.

me: oh she took the epidural.

he: sini takde tu epidural.

me: eh tu epidural lah dol. anyway ur baby..cute tak?

he: (voice cheered up) yeah. 2.9kg, banyak rambut, mata dah celik tgk aku.

me: ahaha....congratulations. brapa hari stay hospital?

he: a'ah eh. ah bye. aku nak check dgn staff.

aka...rabak kan abang aku?! haha.. that's only my brother. and he finally has a daughter. i'm happy for him and we happy for him. I wonder what her name is.

i couldn't tag along to see them. so i am waiting for a photo snapped by dad's hp. mom is so cheeky. she said his daughter is prettier than mine. Chey!

oklah, nak pack and sleepover at my mom's crib. hubby burung hantu shift tonight. he's like sleeping everywhere now, on the bed then kena kicked out by the kids nap time and now he is on our sofa bed. kesian sungguh.

as for iqbal, haha u share the same birthday with my 4th niece. congratulations!

One habit every child must learn by Steve Kroening

Aida's comment - "I took this writing from mded.multiply.com. I seems revelant to my situation now. I find it is true that we try to succumb to our kids crying and screaming by giving them everything they want without much bargaining. That is bad. Sometimes, it is hard too for parents to discipline their tods in their ways when they are interfered by grandparents who can't bare to hear their grand-tods crying. I will do more research on this delayed gratification and hopefully try it out on my tods. Happy reading!"

If you want to save your children a lot of pain and suffering as they grow up, there’s one habit they must learn. This habit will help them avoid financial problems, many relational problems, and a large number of health problems. But it will do a lot more than help them avoid problems. It will also help them become far more successful in their occupation and relationships.

What one habit can possibly do all this? It is called delayed gratification. Unfortunately, not many people today understand what this is or how to make it a habit. Delayed gratification is the opposite of instant gratification. Most of us know exactly what that is. Our society is built on instant gratification. Advertising demands you make a decision right now. Restaurants have drive-thrus so you don’t have to wait. And even our fireplaces light up with the push of a button. No more kindling, logs, and matches.

Not that all of these things are bad. Some are wonderful. But it’s so difficult to know when it’s best to gratify ourselves and when not to. We get sucked into the world so easily that we don’t even realize it until we’re in debt, alone, and dying from a preventable disease.

Unfortunately, delaying gratification is a habit that’s completely foreign to children. They’re born demanding what they want. And they learn early to cry and even scream when they don’t get it. And today, few of them are taught to do otherwise. So most adults expect instant satisfaction of all their wants.

The earlier you can train your children to delay spending money on what they want, eating what tastes good but has no nutritional value, and adopting habits that may feel good but don’t benefit the mind (video games), body (such as smoking), or soul (sin), the better off they’ll be as they grow up.

13 October 2007/ Raya Puasa

Hi all. It was a blast celebrating Aidilfitri this year. Ramadhan has made me a more patience person indeed, those quiet times at home alone made me think wisely.

Its our 3rd Rayer together as husband and wife, 2nd Rayer together as husband, wife and littleboy, and our 1st Rayer together as husband, wife, littleboy and babygirl. One complete family.

And every year we play it fair by alternating the first day/ first house/touch down rayer-ing between my parents and his parents. Only this year, I decided to touch down at my own house for the first time.

We went visitings to many many houses, bumping into old new relatives, wondering why we only meet once a year. Alas, the most houses we conquered were hubby's side. I guess, it was nice to be closed to your relatives. Compare to mine which is mostly over in Malaysia, so visiting their houses are more tough.

So I'll let the pictures do the talking for 3 days of Rayer-ing til we dropped!

eve of raya

1st day of raya

2nd day of raya

3rd day of raya

Baby Suri

Isn't she cute and lovely? About my son age too.

She looks so serius and thin. She doesn't look like a she either. hmmmph. She has Tom's face and probably Katie's eyes.

But when she is being tickled....
She does look like a gorgeous sparkle girl.
Innocent ME
Now... what is this little boy wearing?

Poor thing... he must be thinking 'stupid adult putting stupid things on me!! i'm so innocent, ya noe!'
But it's cute. Babies/ Toddlers... who can ever resist them??
